Electromyography (EMG)

During an EMG the provider selects individualized muscles based on differential diagnosis and clinical findings,  modifying approaches as more data is attained. The provider can hear and see how muscles and nerves are firing based on the electrical signals generated. EMG is very sensitive in the detection of both neuropathic (nerve) and myopathic (muscle) disorders. Some minor discomfort may be felt.

Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS)

During the NCS the provider selects appropriate nerves based on differential diagnosis, clinical findings and modifies the test as more data is attained.  A small electrical impulse stimulates the nerves and the response is recorded. The responses are compared to established normalized data to form a distinct pattern of abnormalities. Some minor discomfort may be felt.

Neuromuscular Ultrasound (US)

Neuromuscular ultrasound is an imaging technique that provides real-time anatomic and physiologic information. Complementary to EDX testing it aids in the differential diagnosis of potential structural abnormalities. It is painless, inexpensive and is safe. It is best performed by the electromyogropher immediately after EMG/NCS in a directed manner to obtain a potential cause to a disorder.
